There was gunfire exchange on Tuesday between soldiers under the elite Special Forces Command (SFC) and the royal guard of Rosette Sanders, the queen mother of Alur chiefdom.

The incident happened at Nakiwogo close to Entebbe State House and Uganda Virus Research Institute. Richard Kasozi, an eyewitness says the gunshots started when a drunken royal guard only identified as Otim started randomly firing at people in the vicinity.

“Residents called police for rescue but it didn’t turn up until SFC soldiers from State House responded to save some of the residents from being shot. The soldiers shot the guard so as to disarm him,” he said.

The SFC officers shot Otim in the waist area before rushing him to Nsamize hospital for treatment. Otim is believed to have resorted to drinking after receiving his payment on Monday night. SFC offers protection to the president, first family and other VIPs.

Jo Wolfram, an Australian national who stays in the vicinity and survived being shot wondered how the humble royal guard turned dangerous after taking a few bottles of liquor.

Baker Kawonawo, the Entebbe division police commander declined to comment on the incident. He instead referred URN to the SFC spokesperson Jimmy Omara who requested for more time to get details.
