An angry mob has hacked a policeman who had been deployed to effect an arrest of a suspect in Butaleja district. The incident happened on Saturday at Dingo village, Nawanjofu sub-county in Butaleja district.
Juma Waya, one of the eye witnesses says that the police officer identified as Ayubu Kanaku had just handcuffed a suspect accused of defilement when an irate mob pounced on him to resist the arrest. In an effort to scare them away, he cocked his gun, which however jammed at the time.
Two of his colleagues, among them a crime preventer, ran for their lives, abandoning him in the hands of an already charged mob. During the scuffle, the handcuffed suspect escaped.

Another eyewitness only identified as Musa says the mob beat up the police officer with clubs and hacked him with machetes. Ayubu Kanaku is currently admitted in Busolwe hospital in Butaleja.
