KASESE –  National Medical Stores (NMS) has donated relief items worth Shs 731m to flood victims in the western districts of Kasese and Bundibugyo.

The relief items including 80,000 kilogrammes of posho, 40,000kg of beans, 4,000 buckets, 4,000 blankets and 4,000 jerricans were handed to the district leaders of Kasese and Bundibugyo on July 7. Most items will go to the worst-hit district, Kasese, and will be distributed to the affected families.

Speaking during the handover ceremony at Bundibugyo district headquarters, Justiniana Niwagaba, the NMS board director who represented the board chairman, said the donation was part of NMS’ corporate social responsibility (CSR). The handover was presided over by the minister of State for Veteran Affairs, Christopher Kibanzanga in Bundibugyo district and Crispus Kiyonga in Kasese district.

Niwagaba said the donation was a token of NMS’ commitment to consistently contributing towards positive social development and better quality of life for Ugandans.

“We empathize with you during this crisis, and we hope that these items will contribute towards assisting the affected people in rebuilding their lives,” he said.

He added that NMS has been an active partner of the people of Uganda for 27 years and will continue to be. Niwagaba reminded the people of Kasese and Bundbugyo to adhere to the Covid-19 preventive measures as directed by President Museveni and amplified in the ministry of Health (MOH).

He told the people to regularly wash hands with water and soap or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Wear a mask at all times when in a public space and keep a social distance of not less than two meters.

He said NMS has provided, and will continue to provide the necessary medicines and other medical supplies including personal protective equipment to government health facilities and other institutions that are at the frontline in the fight against Covid-19 as advised by ministry of Health.
