A post-graduate student of the Management, Training and Advisory Centre (MTAC) in Nakawa has been found dead. The deceased has been identified as Immaculate Kebirungi.
Kebirungi was found dead in her rented room along Neptune Avenue Plot 21, Mbuya in the wee hours of Thursday morning and her room set ablaze in what appears to be an attempted cover-up.
Police stumbled upon Kebirungi's body as they rushed to put out the fire after being alerted by the neighbours. A reliable police source who was part of the team that put out the fire and entered the room, said that they found Kebirungi's lifeless body lying on the bed with her hands and legs tied with ropes.
"She had even been covered with beddings. Luckily the fire was not so much and did not burn everything in the room," the police officer said.
Detectives from Jinja Road police station went back to the scene and picked up two friends of the deceased whose identities have been withheld.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, says the two are helping police trace for the deceased's boyfriend, Solomon Okello who is suspected to have had a hand in her death.
Kebirungi's body was taken to Mulago hospital for a postmortem to establish the cause of death. Kebirungi's murder comes just days after a suspected arson attack at St Bernard's school Maanya in Rakai that left at least 11 students dead and over 30 others injured.
