At least 10,104,520 people have been confirmed to have contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while 501,682 of the infected have died as of June 28, 2020.
Of those 10 million infected, 5,477,042 have successfully recovered from the disease and been discharged from hospital. In Uganda, another 11 new cases were confirmed on June 27, taking the country’s caseload to 859 while another 14 recoveries were recorded. To date, 794 people have recovered and been discharged from various Ugandan hospitals.
Uganda with 794 confirmed cases, Lesotho with 24 confirmed cases, Namibia with 136 cases and Eritrea with 191 cases remain the only countries in Africa yet to officially register any COVID-19 deaths.
Yesterday, at least 202 people died of coronavirus in Africa increasing the total deaths attributed to COVID-19 to 9,519 while a further 11, 980 got infected.
181,179 have so far recovered and the total confirmed cases stands at 374,596. South Africa lost 73 people yesterday, Egypt 88, Nigeria 4, Algeria 7, Morocco, Ivory Coast 2.
In the East and Central Africa region, Kenya’s deaths rose to 102 after the death of another 4 people and new infections increased by 278 to 5,811, DR Congo also lost four people and recorded 138 new infections, raising the total number of deaths to 153.
Ethiopia recorded 5 more deaths and recorded 145 new cases. Central African Republic recorded 5 more deaths to increase its total deaths to 45.
Rwanda recorded 20 new cases to increase their total infections to 878. In Eritrea, 24 more people got infected while Burundi also recorded 26 new infections to increase its national tally to 170.
Elsewhere 512 died in the USA, 994 in Brazil, 188 in Russia, 414 in India, 100 in the UK, 196 in Peru, 279 in Chile, 8 in Italy, 125 in Iran, 719 in Mexico, 128 in Colombia among others. In total 4,547 died of coronavirus while another 176,568 got infected yesterday June 27 in the world.
