Uganda’s coronavirus cases remain at 55 after all 1,162 samples tested negative on Thursday. That is the second day in a row that the country is not reporting any new coronavirus cases. This week, only two cases have been recorded on Tuesday and Sunday.
The recovered coronavirus cases increased to 20 cases after 8 more cases were discharged on Thursday. Mulago national referral hospital discharged seven more patients (3 females, 4 males) to add on the four discharged on Wednesday.
Hoima regional referral hospital also discharged one 43-year-old female recovered patient. The patient was admitted at the health facility on March 20, 2020, after she tested positive to COVID-19 upon return from Dubai.
The global cases and deaths continue to rise at 2,173,206 and 144,950 as of April 16, 2020. Meanwhile, at least 546,324 people have recovered from the virus. On Thursday, the United States of America (USA) recorded 2,032 deaths to take its total deaths to 34,475.
United Kingdom (UK) had 861 new deaths and 4617 new cases, France 753 deaths and 17164 new cases. Italy saw a decline in number deaths to 525 while Spain also registered a drop down to 318 deaths. Deaths Belgium rose by 417 on Thursday.
In Africa, South Africa, the continent’s most infected country with 2,605 infections registered 99 new cases and 14 deaths in the last 24 hours. Morocco registered 259 new cases and 3 new deaths while Algeria, Africa’s hardest-hit country with 348 deaths on Thursday registered 12 new deaths.
Cameroon recorded 148 new cases and 5 new deaths, Tunisia 42 new cases, and 2 new deaths. Djibouti’s cases rose by 156 new cases to 591. Nigeria on Thursday registered one new death and 35 new cases while Guinea’s cases rose to 438 after 34 new cases.
Senegal’s case increased to 335 after 21 new cases were registered. DR Congo’s deaths rose to 22 after one new death was recorded on Thursday and 13 new cases. Kenya registered 9 new cases and one new death while Mali registered 23 new cases.
Rwanda’s cases rose to 138 after two new cases were registered and Madagascar’s cases rose to 111 after one new positive case on Thursday.
Tanzania’s cases rose by 6 new cases to 94. Ethiopia registered 7 new cases. There 2 new deaths in Togo and 2 new cases in Mozambique. Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) registered one new death and one new case. Cases in Botswana and Siera Leone rose by 2 cases each.
