Uganda’s coronavirus cases have climbed to 55 after one new case was confirmed on Tuesday.
The new case is of a 38-year-old Ugandan male cargo transporter from Tororo district in eastern Uganda who arrived from Kenya via the Malaba border on April 12.
The new case reportedly did not have any signs or symptoms of dry cough, fever and difficulty with breathing that are consistent with COVID-19.
President Museveni said Uganda has started testing inter-state cargo drivers and pilots for coronavirus. According to ministry of Health, out of the 625 samples tested on Tuesday, 372 were from truck drivers while 253 were contacts from the community.
The statement from Dr Henry Mwebesa the director-general Health Services at the ministry of Health says, similarly, a 27-year-old Kenyan truck driver also tested positive at Malaba and arrangements are being made to return him to Kenya for treatment close to his family.
Uganda registered its first case on March 21, eight cases on March 23, five cases on March 25, four cases on March 26, five cases on March 27, seven cases on March 28.
Three cases were reported on March 29 while 11 cases were reported on March 31. One case was reported on March 2, three cases on April 3, four cases on April 5, one case on April 8 and two cases on April 12 and April 14.
Among the 55 confirmed cases are 22 females and 33 males. One case is under 5 years (an 8-month-old) baby from Iganga, one case for an under 5-year-old.
There are 4 cases of those aged between 5-10 years. 4 cases are aged between 10-20 years while 13 cases are aged 20-30 years. 15 cases are aged between 30 and 40 years while 10 cases are aged between 40 and 60. Three cases are aged between 60 and 80 years.
