Uganda has been tapped to host the Speakers and Presiding Officers Conference of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) in 2024.

The decision was made on Monday at the ongoing CSPOC in Ottawa, Canada. Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, Ugandan MPs and parliamentary officials were also in attendance.

At the Monday forum, issues discussed included forum CSPOC meetings; format of the said gatherings; Standing Committee Rules and venues for future conferences.

It was agreed that the 2021 CSPOC would be held in Guernsey. The latter is an island in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy. In 2022, Australia will be the host. In 2023, the Standing Committee meeting will be held in Trinidad and Tobago.

Other issues on the agenda throughout this week will be parliamentary engagement; openness, transparency and accountability; and parliamentarians as effective legislators and representatives. The week-long conference got underway on Monday.
