Justice Flavia Anglin Senoga of the High court Criminal Division found Alex Cherotich guilty of murdering Lameck Ogwang and Fred Sembatya, both boda boda riders on December 3, 2016 at Seiko's residence in Nakasero.
While sentencing Cherotich to 35 years in prison on Monday, justice Ssenoga said although Cherotich is a first time offender, he acted in a reckless manner by shooting at the duo.
Mugabi was in the company of his friends, Ssenkubuge and Derrick Katumba when Cherotich opened the door, picked up a gun and shot at the deceased in a violent manner, which took their lives and injured two others.
Justice Senoga noted that the boda boda riders were shot dead while returning Solomon Mugabi who was well known to the convict who didn’t allow them to explain themselves.
Cherotich was also found him guilty of two counts of the attempted murder of Ssenkubuge and Mugabi and sentenced him 25 years in jail. The two escaped with gunshot wounds. The two sentences will run concurrently.
Justice Ssenoga said the courts have noted with concern the gross misuse of guns and that Cherotich's sentencing was meant to send a strong message to the would-be offenders.
