Police in Lwengo district is investigating circumstances under which a police officer attached to the Field Force Unit (FFU) at Kyazanga police station reportedly shot himself dead.
Wilson Kalungi, 54, allegedly turned the gun on himself today morning. Preliminary police findings indicate that Kalungi had issues with his family in Nakaseke district.
A police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity says they heard a gunshot at Kalungi’s residence and found him lying in a pool of blood, moments later. He says the deceased was rushed to Kyazanga health centre where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Paul Kangave, the Southern Region Police spokesperson says Kalungi lost a lot of blood since the bullet shattered his skull. This is the second high profile case of suicide in Greater Masaka region within a space of two months. Last month, the director of St Agnes primary school in Sembabule district, one of the best schools there died after taking poison.
