A 22-year-old man arrested for stealing Shs 10 million condolence money sent by President Museveni to the family of late Mary Luwum in Kitgum district, has been remanded to prison until September 9.
Daniel Lubowa a resident of Kawempe Division in Kampala was arrested by police on Saturday from Wii Gweng village in Mucwini sub-county and detained at Kitgum Central police station.
It is alleged that Lubowa stole an envelope containing Shs 10 million from one of Luwum’s daughters as the body of Mary Luwum was being lowered into the grave at St Paul Church, Wii Gweng.
The condolence money had been handed earlier to Luwum’s family by the Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda who represented Museveni at the burial.
Lubowa appeared before Kitgum grade one magistrate John Paul Obuya and was charged with theft and trespass. Lubowa was remanded to Kitgum government prison until September 9.
